Oops

I forgot to put what the doctor said on here! She was 10 pounds (50th percentile) & 23" (90th percentile, although when I measured her the other day she was 24, but she wouldn't stretch her leg out). He also said that she was strong & very smart (she looked for us 1st before she would look at him...who knew that was a good thing?). He also said she didn't have cradle cap, that her head was just dry. Nonetheless, the cradle cap shampoo stuff has been working.

I've also had some people ask me about the alternate schedule. Here is what is recommended:

2 months: DTaP, Rotavirus
3 months*: Pc, HIB
4 months: DTaP, Rotavirus
5 months*: Pc, HIB
6 months: DTaP, Rotavirus
7 months*: Pc, HIB
9 months: Polio (IPV)
12 months: Mumps, Polio (IPV)
15 months: Pc, HIB
18 months: DTaP, Chickenpox
2 years: Rubella, Polio (IPV)
2 1/2 years*: Hep B, Hep A (start Hep B at birth if any close relatives or caregivers have Hep B)
3 years: Hep B, Measles
3 1/2 years*: Hep B, Hep A
4 years: DTaP, Polio (IPV)
5 years: MMR
6 years: Chickenpox
12 years: Tdap, HPV
12 years, 2 months*: HPV
13 years: HPV, Meningococcal (once Meningococcal vaccine is approved for age 2, Dr. Sears will move it there and delay Hep B by 6 months)

Of course there are other versions out there - this one is the Dr. Sears version. We still have decided not to do a flu shot because it still contains thimerosal and familial history of negative reactions, and have mixed feelings about the some of the others. Madelyn is doing well & seems to be her normal self, other than being off her nighttime schedule a bit.

Otherwise, we've had a busy day today, and tomorrow will be too as I get ready to go back to work. We think we've gotten Madelyn covered for the days my mom has to work. My dad is going to keep her next week, Amelia the week after that, and hopefully my dad will be home the last week. Otherwise David may have to take some time...hopefully that won't cut into our beach trip in June! Another reason I'm excited for the next 3 weeks to be over is because some of my family is coming to visit!! None of my family has gotten to see her since she was born, with the exception of my parents and 1 cousin who drove a long way to get there. I have a couple of pictures to download...hopefully we'll get there sometime this week!

=(

Poor baby! we took Madelyn for her first shots yesterday. We didn't do the hospital shots...callus bad parents, but until someone gives me a good reason why a newborn needs a vaccine for an STD, we won't regret that. She did ok during the shots & slept foor a little while afterward, but then she was miserable. So today we're just kind of taking it easy. I am dreading Friday going back to work. I'm also a bit worried that we won't have someone to watch her on the days my mom has to work. Hopefully that will all work out. Well, I guess that's all for now...too much to do & not nearly enough hours in the day!

The many faces of Madelyn, RoF, and the weekend

So obviously by previous pictures, our baby has the funniest faces. This is our latest one!
She had been talking to me, then all of a sudden started making the funniest faces. I captured this one at least.

This was Friday night. We didn't do anything that night much, but I guess she was exhausted from the busy day. We spent the morning with Aunt Valerie, Uncle Alex, Felicity, and Ariana. We also had another visitor for a little while. We had so much fun!
We have had a super busy & exhausting weekend! Saturday began early with David taking the birds to the vet, then fixing Madelyn's bed, getting a present (a grill!), then him helping my dad work on the mustang, meeting some of the band for lunch, going back to my parents to work on the car some more, running home to restock the diaper bag & let David get a bath, then to Babies R Us to get a few things, and finally to Samford for Stadium Fest. Thankfully it wasn't as hot as we thought it would be, but we didn't get there until 6:30 either. Madelyn loved hearing Rush of Fools play! She was such a happy baby. They gave her a baby "I love Rush of Fools" shirt - it is too cute...forgot to get a picture. And of course she had to get her picture with all of the guys! We didn't intent to be in that picture. She did not like, however, Jeremy Camp. She cried at the first note. Then she finally fell asleep.
Madelyn's first RoF concert, but definitely not her last! We're going to the beach in June & seeing them while we're there.

Wes & Kevin - Kevin loves babies (which is why he held her in the picture).

She liked hearing Uncle Jacob play!

They had a fireworks show at the end. She slept through it believe it or not. I covered her ears of course. After we finally made it back to the car (long story short, I was not putting her on a school bus), we ate dinner & went home. It was 2 before we went to bed. I would have felt like a bad parent except she was already asleep, otherwise we would have never stayed out that late.
We determined the other day that at least one of us needs something a little bigger. We had a bit of an issue when I went to Babies R Us the other day to buy her a convertible car seat (lots of coupons mean really good deals!). We're going to look at a Venza someday...just haven't had time yet.
I thought I would try to leave you with a video of one of Madelyn's "conversations," but it isn't working today. She has 2 consonant sounds - /g/ & /n/. Yes the SLP in me psychoanalyzes my baby's language development constantly. I'll have to try again when I have more time.

Adventures in Bumboland

We had quite an eventful weekend! Friday, I went to get my hair cut, while David showed the house to one of his co-workers, then we met Amelia & Jacob for dinner. It was the 1st time Jacob had seen her since she was born!

My dad is so funny with her!

I was being adventerous the other day. I decided that since she was doing so well holding herself up & trying to sit up that we would try the Bumbo! She did pretty well actually. She got agitated too though because she was getting hungry.

David took this picture a week or so after she was born. She made "I love you" fingers & we held them to get a picture. She has made it several times since then.

Sweet sweet baby...

All this baby stuff wears Daisy out.

Getting ready for church...
We did get a bit of good news this weekend. We have someone to rent our other house! I met her today to show her the house. It's actually the sister of a co-worker of David's. His co-worker was actually going to rent it, but that's a whole other story. This week & weekend will be pretty packed as well...Saturday we are going to see the band play at Samford. They're just going to love her! They've only seen her in pictures so far. Madelyn is doing great. She is consistently sleep 8-9 hours at night, which is great for us! Her latest thing to do it "talk" - no consonants yet, but she will carry on a good conversation!

Madelyn Jewel

It's hard to believe that our sweet girl is 7 weeks old. She has grown and changed so much...here are a few things about her now.

- is such a happy baby!
- likes to talk to herself and us
- will sleep 6 hours at night typically, although I think shes' going through a growth spurt, because she's been eating like crazy and slept 8 hours last night (well, I heard her at 2:30 talking to herself but then she went back to sleep)
- has great head control and loves to look around when we're holding her
- still has lots of funny faces...although my new favorite besides the "oh" face is when she gets mad & pouts...and it's cute when she stretches too...ok, so we just have a cute baby!
- always wants to eat when we do...great when she's older, now, not so much
- is super long! Poor baby is going to be tall...
- hates to nap during the day. I feel accomplished that she's taking a nap in her crib right now instead of on me or in the swing or bouncer or carseat
- doesn't spit up nearly as much now
- her eyes are getting to be a little lighter blue, but not much
- still gets hiccups, but not as much, and they don't make her spit up as much now either
- may be allergic to Huggies...looking into that. It seems like she only gets a diaper rash when we use them, and when we stop, it goes away...any thoughts?
- likes her swing, which means we are probably going to have to get a new one because the one we have doesn't exactly work...

Otherwise, I met our neighbors for the first time today. They had been gone since we moved in. Well, sounds like I have a fussy baby...

Easter pictures

So this isn't Easter, but I wanted to do a poll. David doesn't really want her to wear anything other than pink or purple so that she doesn't look like a boy....what do you think?

Smell the pretty flower!

I'm the Easter bunny!

Madelyn loves looking at her daddy, and he doesn't mind looking at her either!

Easter at the lake.
Last night we went "festiviating" last night for my birthday to see Wicked! For those who didn't get the reference - G-linda made up a lot of words (sound familiar?), and that was one of them. It was wonderful! I have so much more to post, but the internet is being a pain, so more later!

New pics

Aren't I just too cute!

Out & about...

...Or just out.

From our visit with Felicity & Ariana (and we did really enjoy it Aunt Valerie!)

Look at that head control!

I'm still too cute, but this dress eats me alive!

This is what I did last Friday. We had kind of a Sips-n-Strokes kind of thing at church, which turned in to more of a snacks & strokes because there was so much food! It was a lot of fun...they're going to try to do it once per quarter. There is one at Sips-n-Strokes that I really want to do on the 21st.

Winding down

My time at home is quickly winding down, and I am so not looking forward to going back! I love what I do, & I miss my kids, but I know I'll miss Madelyn more! This week has been super busy & shows no signs of slowing down, which is probably why she has no daytime schedule...but, she has stuck with her night schedule for several weeks now, so we are thankful for that! The allergies are hitting hard now - I woke up with swollen eyes =( Madelyn has been coughing & sneezing too. Other than that she is doing great. She learned the other day that her mat makes noises when you hit the cat, and she loved it. She has also finally graduated to size 1 diapers and some 0-3 month clothing. She has gotten lots of gifts this week! From my aunt, our neighbor, the girl who's filling in at work - tons of stuff! I have pictures to post soon...

It's funny how people change

Ok, so let me give a little background on how this conversation started last week & has evolved since. Last Friday we went to dinner with Amelia. This was our first outing together with Madelyn, which she commented on. I said something to the effect of I hope she could get used to it because we were kind of stuck with her (this was all in joking of course, we don't feel stuck at all). Then we started talking about when people have major life changes, such as getting engaged or married or having a baby, how they no longer want to have much to do with their old friends. David and I decided long ago that we didn't want to be like that, because it had happened to us and was very frustrating. Then the conversation came back up Tuesday, although a little different this time. We started talking about it being funny how people change. Sometimes it's for the better, sometimes it's for the worse. Personalities change & you don't know why...just some thoughts.

Madelyn is doing great. She slept for 6 hours last night! She hasn't gone more than 4 hours before. She was exhausted though - she even slept through David changing her into pjs. So don't know if it will happen again. I've been trying to work on her memory book while she's napped, so that's all for now!

Date with Daddy

Today we had a lunch date with daddy. Madelyn loves it, can't you tell? We were going to go out to dinner last night, but we didn't get to because yesterday was quite busy. We went to the hospital to visit my sister-in-law & another friend from church that I work with. Linda & Adalynne are doing great. So are Katie & Anna Kate (she was 4 weeks early). After we left we grabbed a quick bite to eat, then went to Babies R Us because we desperately needed diapers! She's still in newborns and we had lots of coupons for there, otherwise we don't buy diapers from there. We were super tired when we got home though! It was definitely bedtime. So I'm not going to make this post superlong and write about what I was originally going to, but I'll try to do that tomorrow. Until then!

Madelyn & Adalynne - 5 weeks apart to the day!

David said she was trying to eat me - it looks like she's crying but she's not!

We like our bouncer!
