New pics

I love naps! I loved them before, but I've really loved them the past couple of days. After David got home Tuesday, we all took a nap - wonderful! Madelyn & I took one today...after the storms this morning, I needed it! She slept right through - go figure. She had actually just gone back to sleep when it got bad, she had woken up spitting up, and then went right back to sleep. I heard a loud bang (still haven't figured out what it was, may a limb fell on the roof, not sure) and ran in there to grab her because the satellite was out and the weather radio wasn't reporting anything, but we were worried that with the wind and everything that there might be a tornado. Once we figured out everything was ok and David headed off to work, I went back to sleep until she woke up at 7. We went for our first outing alone - I had to run to Wal-mart, PetSmart, & Publix - talk about a new adventure! It will definitely take some adjusting to going out on our own! But, you have to do what you have to do...
My sweet girly!
Daisy likes the Boppy too...we've had to get onto her for this!

Daddy wanted to out me in the swing - we went really slow and he stayed right there! She didn't seem to care either way.

Our first real bath last Saturday - her umbilical cord stump FINALLY fell off! She didn't mind it too much, but she was really tired, so then she got fussy.

She really hates when you put lotion on her! I think it's because it's a little cold to her. Her skin has been peeling so bad though! I put some baby oil on her after her bath the other night and it helped tons.

I got a new laptop! Now my dad can't say that it's a fire hazard...Off to play!

Quick update

Well, we took Madelyn back again today to weigh her - she's finally gaining weight! She was 8 lbs, but they weighed her with clothes on which they haven't been, so I figure she's about 7-13. David went back to work today =( We met him for lunch...he asked me to bring her up there so he could show her off - he's not a proud daddy! She's been on a pretty good schedule the past week, and she's been more alert during the day...which is really good since David is back to getting up early again!

This is your baby...

This is your baby on caffeine! And this is near the crashing point! We learned last weekend that even 1 glass of tea does not agree with baby. Poor thing! Mommy is just not allowed to have it ever again...

This is another thing we learned - watch out for flipping babies! This is not how I layed her in the bed, but a few hours later, this is how I found her. She did a complete 180.

Balled up is one of her favorite positions...

She's so sweet when she sleeps...

This is a cute outfit that my Aunt Gayle sent us! She sent us a bunch of clothes that were too cute! And (amazingly) they actually fit! Our little bit is just too skinny for most of her clothes!

3 things

So here are 3 things we've learned...

1. Girls may not shoot across the room, but they can make a fountain.

2. Not all diapers are created equal. The Huggies newborns (the only newborns we got because everyone told us that they were too small for their babies but my mom had used them for the diaper cake) were waaaaay too big for Madelyn! When we used what was left of the Pampers newborns from the hospital, we tried them, and the other pack that the hospital gave us were 1s, and they were the same size as the Huggies newborns. We just have a skinny baby!

3. The expensive things are the ones we use the most! To name a few - the crib, glider, pump...you get the idea.

More later!

Busy week!

This week has seemed super busy, even though it hasn't been terribly busy. We seem to constantly have visitors, which we love, but it's always when she's hungry, asleep, or when we are both ready for a nap! Madelyn has had a rough past couple of nights...she's had some tummy troubles, but I think she's getting better now. Other than that, we're doing great. We went for her 2 week appointment on Tuesday...they said everything looked fine, but she hadn't gained back up to birthweight yet (which I'm surprised because she's been on a feeding frenzy, although I thought 7 ounces in a week was good personally, but they wanted almost a full pound), so we're going back next Tuesday to weigh her again to make sure she's gaining enough. We also took some pictures...they will be coming soon. I still can't believe she's almost 2 1/2 weeks old! We have such a sweet baby!

Why God made moms

Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's mom like me.

What kind of a little girl was your mom?
1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms and dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller and stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friends.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

We've got issues!

Sorry for the lack of pictures...our internet has been out & I asked David to post some when he was at the other house the other day...as you can see, he didn't get very far! So, until it stops acting up, I can't promise when there will be more pictures...hopefully soon, but everytime I try to post them, the internet freezes & shuts down. =( Anyway, I can't believe that Madelyn is already more than a week old. I guess because part of that time was hospital-spent. She is doing really fabulous. Here are a few things about her -

- she purposefully rolled on her left side in the hospital at a day & a half old

- she rolled on her right side at 4 days old

- mommy & daddy are thinking this can't be good, espsecially since she rolls right back no matter how many times you put her on her

- she has pretty good head control - she can hold it up for about a minute at a time & switch it from side to side

- I think she would sleep all night if I would let her, but right now with the weight issue, I'm not so sure that a good idea...maybe we'll have gained when we go next week.

- she will not eat if she's too tired...we've tried everything to wake her up, but no luck.

- our last night in the hospital, we were taken care of by a nurse who was a family friend. That was very cool & very special since I hadn't seen her in a long time. She told me something the doctors didn't (which really wasn't of concern since there were no problems with the birth) - it said in my chart that she had a knot in her umbilical cord, which made me even more thankful for a c-section as it could have cut off her blood & oxygen supply, causing brain damage, cerebral palsy, or mental retardation among other things. I may not have wanted a c-section, but I am thankful for a healthy baby!

We go back to the doctor next Tuesday...her color is tons better so we think we've gotten over the bilirubin issue. We truly have a little angel...and we are both enjoying her tremendously. I don't think either one of us will have an easy time going back to work!
